While at the garage checking on the restoration work on the TR5 that is being prepared for me I couldn't come away empty handed so thought this looked too good to resist. It's a 1967 TR4a with overdrive and the very desirable Surrey top. For a 53 year old car it is in superb condition with the thickest paperwork history I have ever seen. The chassis and bodywork are in remarkable condition certainly the cleanest TR4A I have seen in many years. Anyway as I said I couldn't resist. Waiting now for it to be serviced and valeted, and it'll be on the transporter back to its new and rightful home.

Thanks all, it is stunning in the flesh, and drives really well, very seat of the pants stuff. In 1967 with the wire wheels, heater, overdrive and Surrey top options, this car would have cost not much over £1200 new. That would not buy three wire wheels now.

My TR5, that is being nut & bolt restored, is also in Signal Red and has a standard soft top, so to differentiate the two, as they have the same body style, I rather like the option of the Surrey top. Hard top in the winter, soft in the summer. The hard top won't fit in the boot so it's handy to also have the soft top for emergency rain storms or for car park stops. We moan about the cost of Z3 hard tops and fitting kits, but you won't get much change from £3K for an original Surrey top set for the TRs.

The TR5 will be a bit of a garage queen show car, (already been offered £20K over my full restoration costs for it!). This TR4A will be my weekend fun car, but also a great investment, classic TR4A and TR5s are some of the fastest price-growth cars at the moment. Fully restored TR5s are now in the £70K range. As good TR4As are still a more affordable option, in the £25-35K range, they are attracting a lot of attention with the associated price growth.
 
Had a red 1964 TR4 that looked like a 4a for about 6years but sold it 2/3 years ago after getting my red z 1.9 which now has a silver 3.ol in the garage for company. The 4 also had a surrey top walnnut dash like yours luggage rack on boot and spot lights on a special bar from TR Revingtons where I had the odd job dne.Lovely car but the wife and I started to find it hard getting in and out and we found the z3 a bit easier.
