Please excuse my lack of knowledge about BMW, but I am trying to educate myself. Recently purchased my first BMW, a 1998 Z3 Roadster. Bought it with a bad engine that seems to have overheated. I was decoding the VIN and noticed it says the transmission should be manual, but my car is automatic. On close inspection there is no evidence a previous owner has done a manual to automatic swap. Does anyone have a suggested explanation for this?

Thanks Nodzed! Then it looks like the decode site I used is in error. I will feel comfortable now with moving forward on an engine for it.
