Looking at replacing the tyres and some companies are offering TPMS Valve servicing and a precision balancing option.

This is our first car with TPMS valves so, do they need servicing every time you swap a tyre? Also, what's precision balancing? Surely a wheel is balanced properly or it isn't.

Are these just means of getting people to pay more for unnecessary things?

I believe that is called margin gain rather than marginal gains. I've never had a TPMS valve serviced on any car and on a road car a balance, is a balance, is a balance.

My 3 Series has TPMS. Ok, it's lease with maintenance so I don't always see the detail of the work/billing but I've never become aware there is anything unusual about the tyre change process when I'm in Kwik Fit.

Very good system it is too. They have their own dust caps, usually in silver and with a rubber insert to prevent air loss.
