Event Tour of Ireland Atlantic Coast - 2024 ( Actual Date TBC Spring or Late Summer )

Might be interested too dependent upon funds, costs, dates, etc.

Mue and I are definitely interested depending on dates .please keep us I formed

Dave

I have seen a fair bit of the Northern end of the route so an organised run along the Southern half is good for us if the stars all align and there's any cash left in the holiday fund. 👍

Date and commitments permitting we’re interested..

Well, I have had the last communication from the Irish travel operator I was discussing with. The big issue is the hotels with parking on or near to the routes. Very easy if you are travelling in one to two cars, but as soon as you mention 6 upwards, the doors close and they are not interested unless it is organised by a professional tour company.

I have attached one of the tour operators suggestions on an Irish road trip, but it is not what I was looking at arranging. I hope it might help a few of you at least.

For the moment, a zed run with a group unless its paid for through a big tour operator on an organised run is not going to happen. Sorry people, I have tried a lot of operators on the other side of the irish sea and a few larger hotel groups.

Sorry to read this Paul as you seemed up for putting this all together.
Kinda know the issues you were probably facing having had similar issues with booking hotels up north.
Soon as you mention is a group 8 plus and a car club you can get a distinct lack of interest in taking your booking and associated revenues.
Stephen.

It is almost like they do not want to take your money. or this sounds hard work, maybe just easier to say.. errr sorry.. No.

Good on you Paul for looking into it.
Sounds like a mammoth amount of work and all those hurdles you have just mentioned make it sound neigh on impossible for a group like ours.
I haven't done any events since before Covid, so if there's a New Forest or the BMW HQ happening again, I'd be up for that.

Thanks for trying Paul, would have been epic!
Any thoughts of a New Forest run next year?
Cheers,
Ian

Many thanks for attempting this.

I've gone around the mainland with three cars, and I was finding the same problem. With big groups you need last minute cancellation, but that is a massive risk for them. I had to pay for some of mine up front with no cancellation, just to get the other two with last minute cancellation.

I can imagine that there is no way they would consider a group of twelve unless you booked without cancellation options, and I can't see that going down well with those of us who want to go, but may have to cancel.

The other option is to tell everyone the hotels and the dates, and let them book individually. I'm off to a reunion in November, and although most of us are in the same hotel, some are a taxi ride away. It never works out the way you want🤪

That is a shame, well done for trying. A lot of work goes in to that.

Ideal I guess are those establishments that take coaches - used to larger groups at once, but good luck trying to track one of those down.

Sorry to hear this news Paul, but thank you for all your efforts in trying to put it together. Maybe back to the Euro Cruises we used to do?

Perhaps a different approach would be to organise driving routes each day but let people arrange their own accommodation - to suit needs & budget.
I have run a few trips like this and it works really well. You can still meet centrally for drinks & meals, but people can find their own places to stay each night - also meaning people can do some/all of the trip depending on their location & availability.

The wife and I have been talking about going to see Ireland for a couple of years now so have been keeping an eye on this trip to see how it might evolve. Don’t think we would manage the big one and sorry to here the trouble your having trying to get the group thing arranged with the hoteliers etc. Does surprise me as you’d think some of them would jump at the opportunities this could give them for out of season bump in revenue. ( The mind boggles. )
Still hope you can come up with something, wishing you all the luck Paul and keeping a close eye on this one.
Roy.
(PS. Maybe a tent and cooking stove plus a small trailer each would get us all in ten different farmers fields along the way.🫣🥴) lol.

A friend I drive with a lot lives in Galway and he says the cost of hotels in Southern Ireland is mental. He advises that a trip round the north of the country would be good and much less expensive.

That said, we obviously haven't considered Air BNB or doing it as smaller groups - so if anyone is interested let me know...
