Shirls mate had one bought for her for a wedding anniversary a couple of years ago, beautiful car just a shame about the horrible engine. Having said that they spoiled the first SLK by fitting a 4 pot engine too.

The engine isn’t horrid per se..I have a C250 estate and its perfect for that …it should just never be in a 2 seater sports car.

I simply dislike dirty smelly noisy diesel engines, ...... even though we own one.

Till last year I had an ML270CDI (the 5 cylinder engine) 160 odd hp or there abouts. considering the size and weight of it it was pretty nippy. Away like sh*t off a shovel.

Current car is GLA200d which, strangely, has the 2.2 Ltr engine tuned down a bit so as not to compete with the actual 220d model.

I must confess to really liking these engines. But, as @AntStark said, these are estate cars.

I had a VW Touareg 2.5 (straight five) a few years ago and I loved that car and to be fair it wasn't that noisy, ..... but it still stunk.;) At the same time I had my 2.0 Z3 and it didn't matter which I drove cos they both did about 25 mpg.

Friend of mine has the V10 TDI. Pulls like a Scania V8 (which he also has 😂 ), and about the same mpg too!
