I always try and MOT my cars as early as possible in the permitted month before they expire - however with my Z I have left it until it had expired, because I haven't had time to mess with it, mainly due to my wife's sudden impulse to revamp every room in the house, and the Z being a spare car that I don't rely on, on a day to day basis, to get me around, and it was also on a sorn.
I didn't want to tax it before the 1st July as I would have had to pay for the previous month, but the mot ran out on the 2nd. So I taxed it on the first and was able to give it the once over and run it for two days before the mot expired, and also give it a good run to blow out any cobwebs.
Well took it for it's MOT this morning - the examiner seemed to spend a lot of time testing the emissions and I was begining to feel a bit negative about the result. Anyway it passed, with two advisories , one, for the front tyres being 'perished', which when I asked was told there are very small cracks in the sidewall of one tyre but not to worry about it! - which I was aware of and wasn't particularily worried about to start with. The second was 'for sealant on panels underneath the car' which again I was aware of as I had spent the best part of a day, cleaning and repairing any scabby bits, underneath the car and then spraying 3 litres of underseal under the car to hopefully protect it for a few years to come, and prevent the underneath in the future.
So my options today when I took it were -
a. have the test done, and if it failed, take it straight home (and spend the rest of the day underneath it)
or
b. have the test done and pass, and go straight home via Matlock Bath andf a nice run along the A6 through Derbyshire.
Derbyshire was very nice - now back to the decorating
