All my out building have been stripped and cleaned out, gardens look like they never have before and well groomed,
I have had this old Toshiba laptop sat in a cupboard for a year or so, the software is brilliant but the hardware not so, it eventually stopped charging, found a snapped wire so it's been soldered and looks to be charging, theres in excess of 30k photos on it that I want to recover

Good luck with that Sean, always disappointing to lose memories mate. Hope it works!

Do you know how to recover info from a phone memory not sim card or memory card. I had an "incident" in the aftermath of the storms a month or so ago. I took my dog for a walk and once he's out and off the lead he's on a mission. He loves water and usually he has a paddle in a local stream. On this particular day the stream was a torrent of water and I tried to keep him out but he took no notice. He went in as normal but the force of the water swept him away. It took him into a culvert, that looked like it was full. I ran in a panic to try to rescue him and I fell arse over tip head first into the water. It took me like surf board straight to the mouth of the culvert. Fred was swimming for all he was worth and he was keeping his nose just above the water. There was only a couple of inches of air between the water and the roof of the culvert. I reached in, a full arms length and grabbed his collar and dragged him out as I braced myself against the culvert wall.
When he was clear I managed to stand up and couldn't believe that the water was only just above my knees but the force of it was unbelievable in the context of things.
Anyway, I was soaked after being fully submerged as was everything I had on my person. My phone was dead as a dodo. I walked over a mile back home freezing my nuts off. When we got back Fred was dry as a bone after a few shakes on the way back and I was no worse for the experience once I'd had a hot shower.

Back to my original question, can my info in my phone be recovered? It's fully dried out now, but there's no life in the phone, It must have shorted out I'm thinking.

I've got a new phone but have only been able to recover the numbers I had saved on the sim

Phones are a bit different to PCs. A PC hard drive can be out in seconds and with a £5 cable connected to another PC as an additional drive.

I'd try another battery first. Then I'd dismantle it and see if there's any further drying out to do. And if any corrosion has set in which may be causing the issue. Failing that I'd try and transplant the memory chip where the data/ID of the phone is to a good phone.

But number one thing really is to keep your data backed up regularly in case this happens. It's one of the reasons I like the iPhone. Set it up and forget it's even backing up until needed.

I use this web site for repair guides. I've had a few iPhones apart and replaced batteries etc.

If you have some particularly precious data on there maybe think about paying someone if not happy with trying the repair yourself. They'd prefer an unmolested phone to start from.

Wow Jack your lucky you didn't get knocked unconscious when going in head first, could've ended up with your head in the Calvert along with your dog. Well done for saving him:thumbsup:. He owes you one.:bored:

He's paid me forward Roy with total unconditional love that only your dog can give you. If you have a dog you'll know what I mean. It was one of those situations where you don't engage your brain properly but there was no way I could go home without my dog. He's nearly 15 now and a big old boy but I don't know how long he could have kept swimming against the torrent of water. If he'd gone in another foot into the culvert I wouldn't have been able to reach him. Lesson learned though and I haven't let him go back in the water since

My other half is very clear who she'd save in a fire first. And she's jumped into a river to get them out before as well when they were puppies. The funny thing was they stood on the opposite bank safe and sound laughing at her while she went in up to her waist fully clothed.

I'd have done exactly the same in a heartbeat Garry. Our dogs are our world and I've always said if I can't feed myself i will always feed my dogs.
To answer your question, not a scooby! :D
