Some of you may know I like my bikes as well as my cars and I bought myself an old one last week. It's the type of Italian racer I was riding in the late 80's. So as it's cold and there's no room in the garage the spare room has become a bike workshop! The first job was taking out the old bottom bracket from the frame. On this it's the old Campagnolo type shown. In the shops you can buy a spanner to fit like the one shown,but they tend to slip off and don't give much leverage so I made myself the different two handled design which is miles better.

The old seat pin was a job to get out and along with saddle that was on it they will be binned. I've got a good saddle which is on the floor and a new seat pin on order along with a new bottom bracket and various other bits. Just want it ready for the summer along with the zed.

That pic of your bike takes me back to my schooldays in the 50s when I rode a Macleans feather weight with a black frame and a very narrow racing saddle that I was told was a Reg Harris but never seen another like it. Sold it for peanuts to by a Triumph T110 from Pride & Clark in Stockwell, Happy days

Bike all finished and ready for summer. Couple of minor jobs to do on the zed, but need a couple of dry warmer days on the drive. These typical size garages leave no room for jobs, pity I don't have my old garage.

My "boss" at the martial arts school, where I help teach fencing, is a professor at Hardin Simmons U. Every year his Leadership Studies students plan Bike Ride Across Texas (BRAT). 5 years ago I agreed to tag along as an adult "chaperone". Hadn't been on a bike in 50+ years, and, after the sticker shock of new bike costs, some over $2500, I picked up a 90s vintage Cannondale. Nothing fancy like new bikes, but much like what I rode as a teenager. We rose from the Gulf of Mexico to Texline Tx, close to the border with New Mexico, about 800 miles. I've been riding as much as possible since then, and ride my age every year on or about my birthday. That'll be 75 miles this year. Love the look of your bike, looks like straight off the shelf!
