pretty sure i need some new tie rods, inner and outer. Wanted to get the alignment done, but the guy said they were heavily corroded, so probably wouldn't be able to adjust. is there a guide for replacing them?
Whats the best place to get some, and which ones? don't want to spend loads, but dont want to cheap out either.
thanks

Not done mine but general opnion on forum is Lemforder brand, should be able to source them on ebay and online spares suppliers, try Carparts4less and use their discount code, they are Web only side of Eurocarparts but cheaper.
Just had a look Carparts4less not doing Lemforder but these do https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/

Put Lemforder on mine. Straightforward job and makes sense once you look at it. One end of the tie rod attaches to the steering rack and the other end attaches to the hub. You need a big spanner for the steering rack end (32mm?) and a ball joint separator helps for the hub end, although I understand you can just hit it with a hammer

I did it on stands in my back yard and didn't have enough space under the car for the leverage needed to undo the steering rack end. I had to put a spanner over the old tie rod and jacked the spanner up with my trolley jack to turn it. Not ideal but got the job done.

Hi HellRot,
lemforder were the original parts supplier for assembly line fit during manufacture, however the Lemforder parts that you can source today are NOT the original parts, they are still manufactured by Lemforder but not the Original parts.
MEYLE is the best alternative, Speak to Asam at AtoZ in HALIFAX 01422 321000 Tell him your in the Z3 owners and he will discount them for you and deliver them to your door. Good luck. I’ve just fitted some.

And, don't forget to measure "roughly" the length of the complete track rod and making the new on roughly the same length before screwing it onto the steering rack.
Also apply plenty of copper grease to the threaded parts as you put them together as it will keep them from seizing with corrosion.

Tony.

ps. If you're careful removing the steel band clips on the rack boots you can reuse them. Much better than cable ties.

Check on ebay for 316 030 4339 and 316 030 4340, these are the equivelant part number for MEYLE parts, please note when buying the assembly they are handed left and right. I can't comment on the quality standard of Ridex, I don't know them, it is probably a brand that has been created by the seller, if so they are more than likely manufactured in China, hence the low price. MEYLE are also guaranteed for '2 years unlimited mileage'.

Any component part considered to be safety critical, you should only purchase WELL KNOWN BRANDS.

You have asked peoples advise, more than one has quoted the same name for quality and price and now you are asking about spurious named products -the asked for advise appears to fall on deaf ears.

Hello Hellrot,

No problem at all, it was only sound advice. Steering and suspension is safety critical and for the sake of a few extra pounds I assure you the comfort of knowing you have fitted top quality parts at a reasonable price is worth every penny.

You can quite happily fit and forget.

Keep safe whilst driving and also Covid..........
