It is rumoured that the new Z4 will share chassis and powertrain with Supra,
kind of similar to Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 but with more discernment.

I for one am worried that this would dilute legacy of Z series...
but also excited what changes it will bring to these companies.

How do you guys feel about this joint development?

Looking forward to it, although BMW will get the softtop variant and toyota hardtop. It's been mention the engine types already so we know its going to be very fast.

The photos / impressions I've seen look just BEAUTIFUL. I don't mind the collaboration or parts sharing - my old Z3 was made almost entirely from bits of other cars!

Well as my old Supra 2.8 had an excellent gearbox all those years ago and BMW have still not really made anything as good, let's hope it gets a Toyota gearbox !! It's the gear change that really lets the Z3 down compared with the Jap opposition eg; MX5. Even my brand new 118i Sport has that relatively poor First to Second change.

I've been looking forward to this new Supra for ages now, I owned loads of sporty Toyotas back in the 90's.

I've been told the high powered version will come later, shame.

BMW could learn lots from Japan, especially in the gearbox and how to make performance 4cyl engines department.
Oh and wiring that doesn’t set you on fire ;)
Sounds like it could be an excellent match.

It would be nice if they did a barebones basic model like they do in Japan with the new 86 - blank canvas to customise as you like.

They should partner with Mazda next and bring back Z1/Z3 era driving experience but up to date. Amazing how Mazda has kept the MX5 so close in size and power to the original yet all modern.
Just a needs a straight 6...

Both will be great.

But as always .the Toyota will be more heavily invested in by the aftermarket and therefore have a bigger following .

I'd probably buy the Toyota too just to have the supra badge

Usually the case Tim, all the fanfare of the sporty models before launch only for them not to appear straight off.
Peugeot did exactly that when the 205 was launched and my old boss Fred Sharpe had to make do with the 205 GT which was 1360 twin carb. powered for best part of a year till the first gen. 1.6 GTI models came out. I drove the first one to land in Gainsborough and I can tell you it was well worth the wait :D:D:D

Mmmmm not sure...

I don't know if it's an official pic from Toyota.

I'm so disappointed, I've been waiting for this launch since November 2016

I was hoping for a hardcore machine costing much more than 50k

They should have named this the Celica.

Yeah, I’d rather see a real Ota, rather than a toy Ota

I like it

Same, love it. Think I would go the Toyota route though. BMW are only doing autos and the Japs are going to stick one of their own manual boxes on it. Should make an interesting drive, M140i with a jap box.
