Never went from Lydd, but I do remember flying from Lympne to Le Touquet. I was considerably younger at the time.
I was 6 and I actually remember flying from Lydd to Le Touquet in1958 in one of those planes
Mum Dad , Me bro, and me… Took a 650Gold Flash motor bike and Side car all the way to the Costa Brava in Spain…( with some friends on a 350cc.bike ) Return journey across the channel was by boat to Southampton and the bike and side car were lifted on and off the boat in a cargo net

Going through the customs shed - Mum and Dad were asked about things being brought into the country that were liable for tax - cameras, binoculars etc - No said our parents - a voice from the sidecar said we got binoculars - Mum and Dad were devastated - they said yes and had to show them - out came a pair of the scruffiest ones you ever saw that we had taken with us. The customs officer wasn’t very amused.
