The turn of the Orange one today.

First a blast to get shut of the grime, then soap and water. As I was rinsing it off I heard the distinctive sound of a raw V8 approaching from somewhere, eventually pined it down to the A1133 and when he booted it out of the junction on the A156 towards Lincoln past me it sounded awesome. It was an early 90s V8S with the Rover 3.9 V8
Then a good drying off.

During which I discovered a fair old chip on the front bumper

Which I've put down to another careless parker, because as you can see, this has front PDC. So touch up ordered.
Looks good under artificial light too.

My other drive is a Ford Ranger 4x4, and I use it to launch and retrieve the boat, Its not unusual for me to overdo it a bit and drown the rear axle in the sea, I spray the s#@t of the underside once a year with lanolin, and never had issues with rust, Is there not something you can do, similar ?..

None. My salt drownings come from launcing and retrieving the boat, the idea is to only submerge the tyre, however on shallow boat ramps it is sometimes neccessary to drown the rear axle as well. Lano prevents rust from those activities., OK the car may smell like a bit funky for a few days, but it works... Just once a year...

Did I tell you about the time I put petrol in my diesel, well ....I'm not going to...

There is now in the UK, something called Lanoguard. Got lots of positive reviews, but as it’s a new product here there is no long-term feedback. Good to hear that lanolin has been successful against sea water on a Ford. If it can deal with that combination it must be good…..

Lanolin, lanotek, lanoguard. Yes it certainly works, just a bit smelly for a while, like wet sheep... I just have one of those 5 litre, weed sprayers with the nozzle bent at 90 degrees and let her rip, about a litre does the job, exhaust stinks for a little while if you get some on it, which invariably is the case. but I guess if road salt is the issue just doing the back of the car wouldnt be good enough. And dont spray it the garage either, out on the driveway definitely...You can get it here in 4 or 5 litre bottles. pricey but goes a long way.. Never used it on the Z though, because towing and launching a boat with that would be as silly as a bum full of smarties....

Does this stuff ( Lanolin, lanotek, lanoguard ) actually attack rust and thus prevent further rusting?
We (UK)have a wax based product called Waxoyl which when allowed to dry (white spirit based) leaves a coating of wax. The ingredients in the Waxoyl also attack any rust which then inhibits further corrosion. Obviously, the waxoyl has to be re-coated as it will eventually wash off with the road water that it encounters (when applied to the car's underbody). HOWEVER, it is ideal for treating rusty cavities such as the cills on a Z3 to protect them from further corrosion and being enclosed in the cill will stay there.
There are also other products such as Dinitrol which has the advantage of not forming such a thick wax layer and so can run into every crevice and seam and so preventing rust.

In does creep into places that are not directly covered, capiliary attraction is the term I believe. in exposed places it does eventually wash of, but it does stop rust in its tracks. From my experiences of using it..
What I have learnt,
Anything that sets hard should be avoided as when it fails it will trap moisture if it doesnt in the first place.
Anything too sticky that does not ablate will cause contaminants to stick, and we have lots of gravel roads.
Something that sticks well, but does wash off if needed is therefor the only choice.
This narrows the playing field IMO.

On a side note.
There are electronic devices that muck about with cathodic reactions within the vehicle, I have never used one myself, but know of folk that do and swear by them, particularly if you drive on the beach a lot...
