This should be interesting

I really hope it happens. I'm fed up of gagging on poorly maintained diesels.

Well I fell for the cleaner Diesel con from VW. Lucky for me I can hand the car back. But what to go for next ? I was thinking of a basic petrol engine as at least it's honest. Hybrids just do not cut it for me at the moment. I don't agree with where the batteries constituents come from and how you dispose of them. Plus the monthly payment to the manufacturers ... seems a con.

I also got caught by VW, sold our Tiguan soon after hearing the news about them cheating.

My worry with hybrids is that the technology is moving so fast at the moment you could end up with a near worthless car in a few years because it's old hat tech.

My family hack is now a Fabia 1.2 Tsi 110bhp estate. £20 tax, near 50mpg, all mod cons. very happy with it.

I ditched the diesel Saab for a 1.0 ecoboost focus. Great car, very low emissions and mega cheap to run.

Having just read this, I really doubt that they can.

- something that will force manufacturers to produce even cleaner powertrains.

I honestly do think that manufacturers have pushed the diesel engine as far as it can, in effect it is finished. And now the world's public knows that they have been conned by ALL diesel engine producers they will likely have to stop producing them .........................and probably soon.

Tony.

I've just had my winter wheels/other toy Mot'd, 98 Volvo V70 R 2wd auto, chipped, big turbo and just shy of 300bhp, when I checked the co readout I thought that's low how does it compare with the wife's tax free Citreon C1?
Well C1 at fast idle 0.00, the R 0.07 (max allowed 0.20)
Natural idle C1 0.01, the R 0.02!! (Max allowed 0.30)
Okay the Hydro Carbons were a bit worse but 13 out of 200 isn't bad for the old girl but I have to pay £230 road tax!
