Sorry guys, late to the party, I've only just got home from Lincoln. That failure item is about the vaguest load of crap I've ever seen on a fail sheet. Where would you start to repair it and what would you repair. I don't see why a fracture at the rear of the car would affect steering? I would call in the local DVSA office and see what they think.

Tony.

a fracture does sound worrying, i would want to get the car up on a ramp and have a good look underneath, evidence of a welding repair maybe visible, if it is, you should be able to tell how good a repair has been done, and see if its the diff mount issue or a corrosion problem, hopefully all will be well

For anyone I didn't speak to at the weekend, had this cleared up by you helpful lot on Sunday.
The spot welds across the boot floor have been very recently done and new rear brake pipes so it's evident that the issues raised at the last mot failure had in fact been taken care of at the garage, allowing the car to pass, legally, a few days later.
Very relieved
