Watching with interest as I'm desperate to do mine, are you replacing the seals.
I am Sean. I will do a full write up with pics when I have finished. Took about 3 hours to get to this stage, including taking notes & pics. It will be next week before I can finish it. Planning on getting the casing sand blasted and cleaning the valve cover at work over the weekend.

Awesome, what kit did you get, I see there is a duel kit on ebay for £70, I have a guy that will do the job for £100

Will do Lee. I presume the lock out kit is for doing the rattle Rings?

Guess so, not looked into it much. I tend to throw myself into it and learn.

You don't need any cam shaft lock tools for the twin VANOS engines (M52TU or M54) when changing the VANOS seals or installing the anti rattle rings.

You do need them if you are doing the seal replacement work on the single VANOS M52 engines

did this last year, my only advise would be to order your own bolts as the ones in the kit are made of cheese and twisted before the right torque that was super low anyway! also the bolts that hold the vanos to the cam shaft are known to brake so I had to borrow another torque wrench to do the job as I have been known to strip all sizes of bolts... I miss that bit inside myself that tells me when a bolts tight enough......

yes but nothing for the first maybe 50 miles then I could feel much more torque lower down then after maybe another 50 miles or so it was back to where I guess it should be with a steady pull all the way from the bottom to the top of the rev range with none of that sudden "go" I had after about 4k revs, its much faster and nicer to drive and also stopped the cutting out when I reversed or sometimes stopped at a junction and its also a little better on fuel :)
