Hi All,

I have now just received the second incorrect thermostat housing in the mail!

The first one was for the wrong engine type (never trust the ebay vehicle selector)!

Anyway, the current one looks identical, apart from the actual thermostat, which is slightly shorter,, so it won't ever close the flow off!!

Please can someone let me know what I'm doing wrong!

Thanks Mark

Pop it in a kettle of boiling water and you will see how it works. Hang it on some string.

Tony.

I seemed to recall I had the same thing when I changed mine over that it was shorter, but it was correct and its been trouble free since it was fitted.
Mine is a 1.9 M44 engine.

I thought I took pictures at the time but cant find them at the moment.

EDIT .......found it !!!!

The lowest part of the Stat. isn't the main opening part which allows coolant to circulate the whole system, it closes off the engine circuit for faster warm up, then the main part opens and allows coolant to pass through the main radiator and back into the block at the bottom.
