So we’ve decided to offer a new service at the shed. As much as everyone loves reading all the shinny builds a lot of people don’t have that luxury with spare cash running into thousands.

So we’re offering a quick n dirty service, plan is to drop the subframe and replace the beam bushes and refit. Over the last 11 years we’ve now refind this process down to an afternoon so if everything goes to plan it can be done in a day.

We call it the quick n dirty because there’s no powder coating involved but we are happy to replace other small items along the way at a small cost.

The main cost is £495 plus the parts. So far we’re on our second car and both have come to 600-700 all in.

Parts: Beam Bushes
Tank straps
Roll bar bushes
Drop links

Drop us a PM for booking.

Nice one Lee that will be just the thing for some owners who need the bushes done but cant get into the cost of a full rebuild with powder coating and new bearings , back plates etc.

Stephen.
I’ve noticed a big change in requests. Most people are telling me garages won’t touch doing these bushes once they realise what’s involved. Least we can plug that gap.

A lot garages dont want to touch old cars in general as they worry to much about breaking everything they touch.
Great you guys are doing this as its all to the good of keeping these great little cars out there.
Im sure your diary will fill up in no time once word is out.
You'll end up like Jack Smith and be booking jobs months in advance.
Stephen.

.... and those that will touch them (mainly the BMW indies) are quoting considerably more than that for the privilege. I wouldn't trust any old garage to do this work properly.
Can't wait to get mine done

This is a great idea. I think a lot of Z3’s are at risk of being scrapped when the owners are faced with even a £600-700 bill, never mind a powder coated restoration like you normally do. The other issue is time if it’s your only car. Fortunately Zed shed and some other independent specialists are still doing gods work to keep us all moving. I had my beam bushes and a push rods replaced for similar cost at BMR Performance a while back. They have a tool to replace the bushes without the need to drop the subframe and I was in and out in under 4 hours.

So today was a new record in the shed. Rich’s Zed went back together in a couple hours. Only hickup being some air in the brakes so another bleed and all was well.

that’s how the bushes should sit, nice and pert.

Total of 3/4 hours with 3 people.

shortly after that Ant rolled his stunning Sienna in.

she was a bit crispy in places so took a bit longer to get apart.

still didn’t slow us down too much. You can also spot in the back ground another Z3 having its subframe removed so that’s 3 in a day and two rebuilt and refitted.

fire maker making light work loosening the bushes for pressing.

about an hour after this it was all back in with various shinny bolts.

Ants bushes also sitting pert.

Keeping good company with Grahams finished Z3.

Nice going guys, I spent 8 hours today swapping over my roof,, so no records there. Cleaning all the gunk accounted for a lot of it.
Swapping the roof and taking lots of pictures, of course, that you'll show us later no doubt.

Thank you to everyone involved in my quick and dirty. Thanks” you Lee for taking time to explain the process and health check the car for any current or forthcoming issues.

I wasn’t sure how much I would notice the rear bush change.

well firstly the car no longer makes any random bumping and knocking noises when driving along.

Secondly the rear end of the car feels a lot more stable than it previously did.

So once again thanks to everyone involved in looking after my Zed and congratulations to Lee in breaking the ICV cleaning record.

Hi Lee, I'm still really interested in having you and the team sorting the underside of my 04 e85, I'm thinking as I've had the car almost 10 years it deserves some shiny shiny.
If you'd be interested let me know, thanks and great job love seeing this type of work 👍

Thanks Lee, that's great
The car is in for service beginning of July and MOT at the end, so other than that hopefully I can be fairly flexible, cars not in daily use

It was buzzing up at the ZedShed today..sun was shining and lots of cars in, including @BillH’s beautiful Z3M. Picked up my 3.0l and what a transformation to the handling!…I was grinning all the way home. 😁
