Climate change certainly has taken it's toll on the mountain tops. Normally, back even 20 yrs they would have been snow covered. I love mountains but prefer snow topped for sure. If you can fit Burchesgarten take the day trip to the top of Mt zugsptiz the highest in the German Alps. At the top is a border station as part is in Austria. It's well worth the trip, believe me!! And you can pick up a Nutcracker from the factory outlet for my wife who has quite a valuable collection of them. Enjoy, JIM
I can't find Burchesgarten on the map!!! Did you mean Berchtesgaden because that is much further east....I know because I spent a summer there working as a chambermaid.

Yes @Gail damn spell check. I was there in 85-7-9 where were you working. We stayed in Rettenberg in Germany at a georgeous chalet type home at the base of a mountain which I climbed with a friend. If I get a chance I'll post you some pics. What a beautiful town for you to have worked in for a summer. I love the mountains must have to do with my Austrian ancestry but my wife gets claustrophobic in them. She's okay for short periods but not anywhere long enough for us to move onto a mountain area. So, back on topic, out for another drive today. Roof down even though it was 36 degrees, bit red now. We drove south down the side of Lake Como down to Menaggio, then turned west to Lugano. Very busy on the roads today enen though it's Sunday. It was like driving to town on the Saturday before Christmas. We then found a little road that went up off the tourist trail up the mountain for a rest and a cool down. Came back over a couple of passes we have done before but they were so good we decided to do them again (San Bernadino and Splugenpass) so we did about 150 miles today. We also got all the 4's on the odometer - 44444. Also we've had loads of waves from fellow Z3 and Z4 owners while we've been here, obviously the same sort of friendly people that are on this forum.

Nice pictures Dave, that looks like a popular place in the 2nd pic.

Thanks Tony. The second pic is at the top of the San Bernadino pass. It's one that we actually managed to get a parking spot. We were not alone for long though. :shifty:

Not much zeddin today, hiking instead. Took a drive up a local mountain as far as the road went, then walked. Heading home tomorrow, hopefully top down.

Great pics, thanks for posting. The 78s (Z3 Wheels) really suit the Z4, cannot remember seeing them fitted to a Z4 before. Have a safe trip home.

Just to keep you updated, we drove from Italy through Switzerland and are now in the hotel in Pontarlier, France. The drive in Italy was a bit of a chore very hot and very busy . Only one pass today, Simplon just after the Italian,/Swiss border. Got caught short on fuel and paid €1.71 for 98 octane equates to £1.19 so not too bad. I'll find some cheap supermarket stuff to balance it out. Don't want the Zed getting a liking for the 98. TBH didn't notice any difference.

Did no one appreciate the quality of Dave's butterfy photo, he's moaning to me so I thought I'd better make a comment about.

Brilliant photo hubby :scorecard:

Wasn't going to comment on the butterfly photo cuz it reminded me of an old playboy forum story about a guy that caught flies and pulled the wings off and let them wander on his "head". JIM

Looked like such a great place just to chill out. Sometimes just to walk and feel like part of the natural world does the mind and spirit so much good. Good to see you stopped to smell the roses. Frankie
