Boris, October 2020 -

"You heard me right.
Your kettle, your washing machine, your cooker,
your heating, your plug-in electric vehicle - the
whole lot of them will get their juice cleanly and
without guilt from the breezes that blow around these islands
"

"It was wind that pulled the sails of Drake and Raleigh
and Nelson and propelled this country
to greatness"

National Grid Fuel Mix

Gas 60.6%
Nuclear 9.8%
Biomass (which is really burning tress from North America) 7.6%
Solar 0.7%
and WIND 1.2%

Oh dear :banghead:

OOPS!! Oh well, he can explain himself when Biden pops across in the summer .......................

Tony.

Don't fret there's still domething in THE WIND and that's moisture, which becomes the rain we all hate, when harnessed in huge tanks in hilly areas (and Imean HUGE) becomes the driving force when let down hill to drive a generator which supplies power to local area and powers a pump to re-fill tank. So apart from the first tank fill and maintenance it's virtually free in comparison, after initial cost.
Being trialled hopefully by now in Scotland and Gov are looking at it. Not pie in the sky just rain hopefully.
There's hope for us YET.

Roy.

Fixed that for you mate.;)

For a bit of perspective - That 1.2% of wind power gave us 468 Megawatts to feed into the grid from the 10,930 wind turbines currently operating in the UK. To achieve Boris's dream of 100% wind power for that particular moment in time would have required roughly another 980,000 wind turbines in operation o_O.
Incidentally, 468 Megawatts is roughly the output for one unit at a modern CCGT plant.

Would it help if they built a hydro electric dam at Dartford and flooded the valley upstream?

I’ve got a hydroelectric turbine siting in the barn, they don’t make it easy for you unless you’re one of their mates to generate your own power.
