No hoax, Cobber. They are real and extremely ferocious. The good thing about them is that they only attack tourists.

Bloody bush rats. Worst thing to do is put out rat bait - it makes the buggers thirsty so they eat your coolant hoses and pee all over te engine compartment..

I've learnt to love them. If the car's in the garage I leave the bonnet up. We're experimenting with camphor at the moment to see if that will deter them.
