As the title said technology and your parents

How are your parents when it comes to technology?

My dad, well it has never been a problem.

I admit to being technologically challenged. if it was built before the turn of the century I can fix it, if after I don't care to understand how it works, just as long as it does!!!

In honesty Mike, that's part of what I don't like about my job any more.

I know what you mean Tony, modern things seem to be far to complicated, good as long as they work, a real pain to work out whats wrong if they don't. It's the things that you only have to fix once in a lifetime that are really a pain. you learn how to do it after a while, with a bit of trial and error knowing full well you will probably never use that knowledge again.

Mine are still on this planet, my brother bought the old boy a laptop, he does not use it, tried to explain Skype to him.
Cost me a bloody arm and a leg in phone calls....

Shirl's mum, bless her, had no patience for mobile phones and it was a complete waste of her time and yours to try to encourage her to try to grasp how easy it was, ............................................. before "smart" phones which are anything but.:(

I started writing software and designing big telephone systems many years ago. I grew up with technology, some of which nowadays is still pretty awesome. I had over £1m of computing equipment under my control in 1983. However, the degree of interaction on IP connected products and app to app communication is becoming scary and difficult t comprehend.
The problem is that the apps become more and more fragmented rather than providing an integrated solution. Theres also a mountain of new technology looking for a solution. Our phones are now incredibly powerful windows on to the world, but, they are still just loads of islands of individual apps. I just loose track....
No 1 son is fact becoming far more savvy at this kind of stuff. I think I'm heading back to the dark ages where my parents live. Dad uses his computer for browsing. Doesn't do email or anything like that. Mum can use a basic mobile phone. They have a couple of connected tavs but still only use the Virgin box. Bliss!

My mum is great ......... :p
She's got herself a iPad and she is very good on it ..........;)
She does everything you can on it ;)
She has just brought herself a iPhone :)
But that's the same as using here iPad ;)
Once my mum wants to do something she does it and won't give up :)
But I think she gets carried away sometimes and then says I don't know where the day has gone :)
But good for her ........:p
