As some may be aware i surrendered my licence in Oct on medical grounds (brain did a random reboot) and after nearly 6 months i am looking to get my wheels back on the road. To save money i cancelled all my insurance and put my cars on SORN.
I am now looking to start inquiring about insurance once again and wonder who you use and the price you pay. Last year my 1999 2.8 Z3 was around £400, i am 45 with >10years NCB against my other car. After reading a few comments here i can see that others have paid much less and hear chatter around classic car insurance. Please can i have your advice on where to go?

Any links would be greatly appreciated.

Jon

Adrian Flux. Lancasters, Footman James who seem to be the popular ones. Would expect a target of around £200 with limited mileage

I get a very good deal with Footman James. I have my 2 year old 3 Series and all 5 Z3s insured on one policy with them.

My renewal came through for my 3.0i Z4 last week. Quote at £285
Inc. declared modifications. Gone up £20 on last year.

Tony.

Best deal I found on my Z4 Alpina was Tesco Bank @ £340 1 years NCB 10,000 miles, zero excess.
Z3M is with SAGA cant remember exactly how much but its was below £300 (£280 I think) 2 years NCB unlimited mileage, £500 excess
Full European cover on both without notification

Who's yours with Tony?

Sorry Nozed but i fear im way too young to be with Saga ;-) But free Euro cover sounds great.

Classic Line, I have an agreed value £8k with 0 excess Euro breakdown cover, legal cover, £260 per year, I did screw them down though, reason I used them is that another forum member used them and wrote his car off and they paid out no problems for the agreed value

I've not heard of most of these firms, I take it there not on comparison sites?

I’ve got my Zed with Saga for £188.95 fully comp with only 2 years NCD. (4000miles per year) but no breakdown included as I have a two car policy with SmartCover.
15 years of NCD on a bike didnt count for diddly, so had to go back to square one !!

I am also with Classicline. For my 1999 2.8, £236 for 5000 miles and agreed valuation of £5k. Similar cover to @Sean d , but also get breakdown and recovery and track day cover (with some conditions).

I can't remember who the hell I'm with without digging it out but I pay just over £200, no limit on mileage although I usually put 6000 down. I never get near that figure.

The agreed price tops it up pal, I can insure the 2.8 for £155 without the agreed value of £8k but I would imagine I would be lucky to get £1800 payout from a standard policy

Fair point mate.

Just had my renewal from Manning £327 up from £277 last year, agreed value, track day cover (which I haven't used so far), protected NCB (12 years) & 5K annual mileage limited.
Will be looking at Footman James, Classicline, Adrian Flux etc over next few days. See how it goes got a month to sort it out. Will let you know the outcome.

Sorted!!

BMWCC Insurance - £491
Manning - £327
Classic Line - £313
Adrian Flux - £300 (£285 + £15 for agreed value paperwork, based on BMWCC agreed valuation)

So Adrian Flux it is, policy conditions the same apart from Manning having track day cover, which I never used.
Mind AF initially came through with a higher quote which I said was worse than my renewal quote. AF went to different company and came up with above quote. Total of about 2 hours phone time. Didn't try Footman James as didn't think anyone would better AF quote.
Just got to ring up to get proof of NCB tomorrow.
