I'm not sure how I feel about this one. MOT is due at the end of May.

Two options:

1. Get it done locally, I can.

2. Take advantage of the 6 month extension, wait till November when I may possibly SORN for the winter. So potentially not MOT till March 2021.

What would you do?

I'd get it done, piece of mind. Just my view.

Keep the car roadworthy - particularly if you drive it daily!

My MOT ran out on 23rd April but the extension means that it’s now not due till 23rd October.... I want to get it in for MOT. but waiting on my Airbag ECU coming back as found the previous owner removed the airbag warning light bulb :( as soon as this is sorted it will be in for MOT

Mine is due in a couple of weeks, normally I would have had it done by now but I will get it done as soon as this lockdown eases up.

Mine was due just before the Lockdown so it's done. But if it wasn't and you have the 6 month extension you can hardly claim that it is an essential journey, after all that it why they gave an extension, to protect you and the Testers. Also part of the extension is that you're obliged to keep the vehicle roadworthy, it's not a "Get out of jail free" card.

I just wonder how many MOT stations are going to go under as a result though.

Thing is, if the testers don't want to work they cannot be forced to as far as I'm aware. Some places will milk the situation for as much as they can and some will look after their staff and take the consequences I guess.

Mot numbers are way down at the moment i am doing mainly vehicles that expired before 30 /03 /20 .

My M3 and Z3 MOTs expire at the end of the month. Having both done next week.

Mine expires next week. Would love to get the car done as its tip top but the shop is closed.

Seems to be a little hiccup with the Mot extension scheme, our works cars mot ran out and my boss asked if I know of any garages open that could do it? I mentioned the extension scheme and he said the problem was we couldn’t tax it because the system says it’s not mot’d.

If the mot expired before 30/03/20 then no extension will be granted if its mot ran out after the 30/03 then should be granted an extension a day or so before the due date.

If you are due an extension and this has not been applied you can contact the DVSA and they will sort it for you.

Tanvic lol!

Not sure if correct or not, I’ve just had my caddy van mot done as I did not want to chance it.
I was told the extension only is allowed if you are in total self isolation and can not get to mot station, I was also told there are some insurance companies ( not all ) that will only insure it as fire and theft. This is because if you are in total isolation you should not be on the road, and if you are on the road then you can drive to get it’s mot done.
As I say this is only hear say all I can say is check especially with regards your insurance.

I give up!
