symptoms of a failing vanos

The guy is amazing tbh he did both my M's even knew I had the wrong viscosity oil in one of them, which I did, by the sound the engine made. To say that impressed me is an under statement.

He told me I had an exhaust leak on the Z4 - I hadnt heard it to be fair but when I had the bearing shells done I asked them to look and there was hairline cracks in both headers.

But yeah, telling you the oil is wrong from his hearing is very impressive.

When I got back from Silverstone, it was chattering like a bag of budgies......can't live with that.
Mr Vanos booked in for next month...

I just had mine done and I didn't think it was bad, just thought I ought to do as the car is up to 129k miles. It wasn't noisy at all, the only symptom you could pin down was hesitation at low revs (I had thought that was throttle sensor/actuator which are a known S54 issue). Since I had it done the car is so different and super smooth, to the point at which you can feel the VANOS doing it's thing and the car surges on. Did a Brands track session in July and the car was amazing, the return session in August with a new VANOS and the car was on a different level!

it's funny you should say that...mine has always had a punch in the back when the vanos kicked in...but testing it a few months ago while playing with an RS7..as you do..I didn't get the punch in 2nd vanos when heading up a long hill and felt like thats all she had.
It was disappointing as he did me before we got to the twists again..and i don't like loosing !
