Evening to all, just seeking some knowledge please on what should be located in the gap on the below shown switch panel.

I’ve acquired the switch blank - part number ending in 8400712 as per the parts diagram on real oem. However the blank is actually too small / narrow so I’m assuming there’s something missing from my panel!

Thanks in advance.

This is the one you need. Can be found on eBay sometimes, usually more than £10 each. Chances are the missing one has fallen inside. I bought one from @spurs fan in a coupe a few years ago and lost it down the hole before I’d even handed over the money.

There is nothing there in mine, I made a blank out of small piece of plastic book cover, same texture, a bit of foam and a blob of glue top and bottom to hold the foam to the back of it. Only to find the blank under the seat a few month later when I did the seat bushes. The book cover is still there because you cannot tell the difference and it will never fall out..;). Needless to say, but have a look under your seat, as well as in the hole...

The one in my Z3 went the same route.

Tony.

And while you're in there, with a bit of fiddling about the roof switch has enough wire on it to relocate it to a spare hole in the centre console, if you should happen to have one. Got a bit pi55ed off with the standard position on mine, and much prefer it where I can see the damn thing. According to popular opinion (and we know that's always true) it was placed there to prvent people from accidentally folding the roof down, which, bearing in mind the need to release two catches, lift the roof a few inches, and keep your foot on the brakes at all times, doesn't really seem likely to be true.

They should have put it on the outside of the car so that you can make sure the window doesn’t crease when it folds😭

I'm sure I remember someone on here incorporating the roof switch into their remote locking fob, quite a while ago. With the amount of cheap electronics available on ebay it probably ain't beyond the reach of someone who's a bit clever to go that way, too. I've been working on a remote for a fothcoming motorbike that's been far too long in the making, just to see if I can.

Thanks everyone for all the advice on this, very much appreciated!
