About time the police in this country got some up to date equipment to deal with situations like the one that erupted in Swansea last night.
Pretty sure they make a net that can be fired in the air to trap killer animals so why not use it to contain the front runners of such a mob.
I really felt for the police in the situ they found themselves in, not enough manpower to control the situ and nothing but bato, helmets and shields as is seen which was tot inadequate. The response van should have all the equipment that’s available in this country to deal with this collection of out of control youths. Can see the public banding together in the areas that they feel threatened to try to deal with this sort of behaviour themselves if the police can’t handle it. These out of control youths need teaching a lesson. Maybe we should all have a shield and a monkey bucket full of stones (the size used for a caterpolt) stored away to just show them that the police are not the only ones who can deal with the likes of bullies.

Haven’t seen anything about this yet Roy, but you’re absolutely right.

Just watched the main news on BBC and it looks like to me they’re playing it down somewhat. Look on the internet for more info and more vid clips, one of the police being totally overwhelmed and driving away. Mothers and children crying in fear of the mob attacking their home, 80+yr old woman’s front window smashed in and having to get family to come fetch her. Father stood up to them having his car vandalised and having his widows and front door smashed in, him having to stand inside his front door to protect his family who are terrified in the kitchen. This would not have gone on so long in the 60s 70s or 80s so what on earth has happened to make the authorities so slack.

The Police have had their hands tied behind their backs by the do gooders Roy. It’s high time parents were made responsible for their Feral brats.

Time to reintroduce national service. Give them the action and excitement they obviously crave along with a sense of worth and discipline away from their own backyard.

First Minister Mark Drakeford has condemned the scenes, while South Wales Police said those involved will face "robust action".

During these events the police neither arrested or fined anyone. BUT a few weeks ago

South Wales Police Merthyr Tydfil

@SWPMerthyr

NPT have issued 32 COVID fixed penalties so far tonight. One address had 14 people inside watching France v Wales on a projector screen. #KeepWalesSafe

shows what the police consider priority

I believe this is due to the Political nature of those controlling the police and not the police officers on the ground who are trying to control the situation without being given the required equipment

It's a great shame as I consider Swansea to be a friendly and community centric place. The police undoubtedly geared up and then backed down believing it would incite things further unless they withdrew. I'm afraid this looks awful to me when people were coming under serious attack in their homes. Apparently sending cars down the hill (very steep in that part of town) has happened a couple of times before recently too.

I'll be back there tomorrow and keen to understand exactly what happened.

Nice comments and all very valuable, thought about adding the National service one myself but having had four children myself and never having a visit from the police just shows you how hard I’ve been with them, being x service shouldn’t be the only way to bring children up strict enough to be respectful of all other human beings and animals. Why isn’t there a course that you have to attend when you become a parent, then when they cross the line you would have no excuse because you’ve been taught how discipline is one of the major if not the major lessons in life. The services certainly taught me how to conduct myself among my peers but it wasn’t a hard lesson for me as I’d come from a family of ten with WW11
vet of a father. Most of the last 1.5 generations have been spoilt to the point of not having to work hard for even the pocket money that their parents are so eager to give them for free. Don’t think for one minute Ive had no problems with my children but only in recent years and the youngest are 46 (twins) so it just shows how you can loose your so called grip on them as they become older and the world changes them. Enough said.

When i was working i used to know Swansea reasonable well , and Mayhill is a poorer part of town but not all are like that i meet some decent people there so not all bad , there is another part not far from there and when i was calling into a grocery store which was a single store building it had barbed wire round the top i asked the storekeeper if it was to deter the teenagers ,no it to stop their little brothers stealing the fags

Yep she certainly did and congratulated the police on bringing it to a close. Funny how the man who was defending his family said he had to wait 3hrs for the police to arrive and another eye witness filmed them driving away after being beaten back and states they never returned, something smells real bad on why she felt she had to congratulate a police force for actually failing dismally. Can’t fault the coppers who actually tried but where the hell were the reserves that should have been called up. Their must be a contingency plan they fall back on like we had in the prison service, members of trained staff who take it in turns to be on a few minutes notice to attend such events. The mind boggles yet again.

Not sure what to make of the Police response. There were around 60 officers present at the peak but they took the decision right or wrong not to attempt a pitched battle with a reported 200 youths, who allegedly might have been a bit fired up by what they'd been taking. It's certainly not the case that a few coppers turned up, went away and no one else came back. Anyhow, this article contains the Police response so make up your own mind. What I do know is the local community are fuming, will know exactly who is responsible and are unlikely to say nothing.

I saw reports of this I social media with a man screaming in the phone to ask the police to send officers. He was inside his home, the windows were being broken and his two cars set alight. It was horrifying!
