nearly had to cry off, almost lost my zed today, i stopped in a short Que of traffic as someone was turning right, i looked in my mirror to see a car speeding towards me with smoke coming off his tyres, no chance he would stop in time so hand brake on and lean back in my seat waiting for it, he came to a stop alongside me on the pavement, we just looked at each other and laughed nervously.

think maybe the car in front of me had no brake lights, or we were distracted by something, i keep going over it in my head and cant figure how it had happened, it was on a straight road and a 40 at that. still i know my antilock brakes work well:), and im glad i get new rubber last week.
think the chap in the car behind would of had to pull over and change his pants.

Never a bad thing to try your ABS now and again, should be part of the test.

We're heading West. Shelly, if she is able to come, is also heading west. At some point, or Peterborough as it's otherwise known, we will turn North and then west again, nothing to it really.

Just thought we'd add that.

Where is the meeting point or is there just one car park? I've been past Rutland Water many years ago,but not sure where to park.
When you arrive at Rutland, you need to make sure that you head for the Harbour café, as the postcode is for the whole complex of Rutland water. You will see other car parks, including a child's play area, shortly before the gravel road down to the café.

Glad you're unscathed.

I always leave a cars length gap in front and foot on the brake even with handbrake on until I can see that any car behind is going to stop. If you're stopped around a bend or over the brow of a hill leave lots of gap with your brake lights on. At least you can create more space behind or even pull out if they're not going to. Defensive driving and bitter experience.

Still been tapped from behind twice recently in the LR, both while stationary in traffic. One was a dozy girl who shouldn't have been let out on her own. "Sorrrrreee" she whined. No damage to mine - My tow bar complete with big metal bracket for carrying bikes left its mark on her car - I smiled sweetly, said "I think you will be" and suggested she pick up the parts of her car up off the road.

Indeed - There is a carpark on your right after you go through the barrier - That is NOT the one you want. Go past that and then left - you will see another carpark on the right by the Harbour Cafe.
