Whats next, here is your new car sir, oh, you'd like a seat to sit in (available on easy monthly subscription).

It's been around a while. My 3 series is just coming up 3 years old and I've just had the email telling me if I want to keep Spotify, traffic information, map updates and various other bits and bobs, there's now an annual subscription.

Apparently it's 15 pound a month in the UK for heated seats if they weren't specified originally. Think I would rather buy a sheepskin cover than have them at that price.
Presumably steering wheel heating will be another 10 and then more for cruise control etc. Could end up getting pretty expensive.

Or you can pay a oneoff price for life. But with many cars being on 3ur lease deals, not many will have the goodies specc'd for life
Good money maker but pretty shoddy IMO

Now in UK. Some interesting points.

And another thought: if after a few years, outside vehicle warranty, you decide to activate your heated steering wheel, and it doesn't get hot, do BMW then effect the repair ? If you are paying your subscription, I guess the answer must be Yes . . .

I don’t like the idea that someone could remotely alter things on my car. Not something I would ever sign up to.

Tony.

The Future of BMW…
Bloke at BMW dealership gets in his brand new top of the range Z4M…. turns the key …… and nothing…..

Calls the Sales Director over …” It wont start???”

Sales Director looks puzzled … let me check into this……

Comes back 10 minutes later with a knowing , condescending smile…..

Just checked the paperwork …..and unfortunately you didn’t specify that you wanted an engine!!!!

This sort of profiteering goes back a long way though. I remember the days when a new VW came with wiring and speakers, but you had to buy the head unit as an extra. You could choose from two or three different ones according to price and spec. That was in the 80's.

The only upside I can see is the case when I bought the 20i X1. It was not available new but found a 3 month old one 2100 miles . (Found later it was a Mobility car that had been returned —— very well specs and 4year/60k service pack) It lacked folding mirrors and auto dipping lights , in the new situation I could have paid the lump sum to activate whereas I was quoted around £2.5k to retro fit them.
