This does not matter, I deal with CCTV systems on a daily basis, if you provide footage to the police as evidence you can be summons to court to verify that the information provided is a true and correct version of events. I no longer download information on behalf of customers for this very reason. Here is a question I have not though of until now, how will GDPR deal with dash cam footage, will all drivers using video cameras have to have signage letting everyone know that they are being filmed???? Hmmmm...
If you are commercial, you need to display a warning that includes the operator and their contact details.

Private dashcams are ok without a warning, unless you record sound and carry passengers who may not be aware you are recording them.

Different rules apply abroad (especially in Germany).

One of the differences between the Nextbase dashcams that were talked about on here recently and the near-as-damn-it-identical Voyager ones seems to be that the Nextbase ones came with a sticker in the box warning of there being a camera in the car. Guess that's why the one I bought was £40 cheaper.

No not if in a public place
Not sure why you think that, GDPR has been put inplace to protect the public

ths is my point Pingu, most if not all dash cams record audio, how many videos have we seen online in recent months that have full audio? It was not too long ago we had “do you know who it am, who, I’m Ronnie Pickering!!!” :)

GDPR is about personal data that you have provided to any party to protect you from misuse of that data by that party or anyone they contract to use it, not to protect the public as such.

You can photograph anything in a public place unless it is a prescribed location. Eg MoD property.
You can photograph any property from a public space but you need a commercial release to use that image commercially if it is only that property in the image.
You cannot photograph on private property eg shopping malls etc without permission.

Now, the issue with GDPR is that images are stored as data. Does that constitute personal data provided under that act?
Unlikely to happen. That will render every digital camera and phone in Europe unusable.
It would also prevent live tv from public places like football matches. That isn’t the purpose of the act.
If that were the case then Kodak and Ilford would be smiling because we’d all go back to film.

Watching BBC Breakfast.
The news is that the police are now requesting your dashcam footage if it has recorded poor driving.
A quick Google finds this site.

https://www.cheshire.police.uk/advice-and-support/roads-and-vehicle-safety/submit-dashcam-footage/

I'm sure your local constabulary would have a similar website.

All I can think of is everyone in the forum recording a cruise and turning in the footage. Remember the curise where there was an altercation with a pedestrian? I live over here in the USA and even I have footage that could get me arrested over there....
