Style 42 - no bolts

Cross spoke comp.II 42 with bolts, ie 2-piece/split-rim
Centre is deeper dished

Style 78
Surprisingly different to Style 42 (repeated below) when you look close-up but also easy to mistake at first glance
Another way to look at the difference is that both have 10 spokes but on the Style 78 every other u-shape is replaced with a pincer type shape. Look at the centre of the wheel and follow the different shapes as they go out.

Had a bit of time on the wheels last night and managed to remove 3 of the 5 snapped bolts on one wheel, I have been toying with an idea of how to get enough heat into the snapped studs and came up with an ingenious solution (even though I do say so myself :D)
We have a spot weld pin puller that we use to put pins on panels so we can pull dents out, it worked perfectly on the studs and a 2 second burst had them glowing bright orange, mole grips did the rest, the problem I have with the other 2 is that they are just 2 short to grab.
Also got one rim stripped ready for etch primer

Got one of the rims painted today, its the finest aluminium I could get my hands on as I didn't want sparkle, I wanted it to be as close to a polished finish as I could get. I will do for me

Sean you might be able to lay a small nut over the top of the broken stud, then using a mig welder fill the Centre with weld to make a new head to aid removal. I use this technique a fair bit and it hasn’t let me down yet.
