Strippers Ahoy!!!

Ah I see. Thanks. I didn't realise this being a non ac pauper! Do you use air con with the roof down? It could combat global warming! :))

We did try it in France last year, Deano, but it blew the pumps :ymdevil: Euro car parts quoted £618 for a new pump, so we decided to do without the aircon for the time being. In 34 deg of heat isn't so bad with the top down, it's the sun burn on my not quite so amble hairline that really causes a problem :D

We have continued to strip the Zed down a bit more :-ss This time we are concentrating on the sills.
I have never worked on a car that has been so easy to take apart, obviously BMW gave a lot of thought to this aspect of the design of the Zed.

As you can see from the pics, the driver's side sill is now off and there is no rust on the chassis rails. :-bd

Underneath the sills is a piece of heavy engineering, the inner sill is made of 3mm galvanised steel. Everything about this car has a permanent feel to it. ^:)^ I wish Landrover chassises were made with the same steel, perhaps if BMW had owned them longer, they would have been!! :D

Stones hitting the outside of the sill have caused the galvanise to part from the steel in small circles :-q

PS. Snoops, before part pics were good, will put them on when we get the body parts back :-bd

Well done :ymapplause:

Sandy, I've been told by mike he's only got all this work done because you won't let him back in the house after getting copper grease on the sofa x_x

:D

I've had my sills chemically dipped to neutralise the rust. The outsides have been sprayed and the insides are getting the Hammerite treatment :) .

Look forward to that, I do cringe a bit when I see a car stripped down that far but good to know how solid they've been built underneath. Good following this :-bd

Mike's sleeping in the garage now, until he's finished and had a Bath ~x( He's got electric and water down there, that's all he needs to make a cup of tea. [-(

Nice job there Mike, I hope Sandy is keeping the cups of tea coming! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks Barry :)
We need the moral support!! and the tea :D
Going to collect the body parts today, gotta handle them with kid gloves :-ss

Hi Guys, :-h
Great top down day for Zedding :steer2) shame we spent it in the garage, but over the weekend, we have at least got the bonnet back on and tried the nose cone on. :-bd
We had a visit from Z3cade - Liam & Caroline on Sat and they will agree, amazing results, really, really pleased with the paint job and as you will see, apologies for the reflections in the pics, the paintbox was so shiney and mirrorlike ^:)^

Snoops, here are the before 'n' after pics.

What a transformation, well worth it, just now to steer clear of any road chips ;) :-ss

I'd don't know what everyone thinks, but my body shop guy has got the lower part of his motorbike covered in a protective clear film, which you could only barely detect. Wondered whether this was the way to go? :-?

flipping heck mike that looks superb, just come out of the factory . You can park next to me at silverstone :D

It really does look good as new :D

Think It's going to be shinier than yours at Zfest Hornel? x_x

We need a show n shine zorg comp at Zfest :ymdevil:

You're lucky, Hornel, I'm not allowed in the house anymore since I got copper slip on the sofa :ymdevil:

Wow !!! that looks amazing and it's parked in your garage, wait till you get it out in the natural light.

I, like you, pondered over the film coating but how far do you take it because the front end of the bonnet had stone chips too and I didn't want to put it on there. I chose not to in the end but fully understand anyone that would.

:D :D There's gonna be some shiney zeds at Silverstone :coolsteer) :D :D

Yes, I couldn't make my mind up whether to go for underwired or just leave it swinging (or should I say dodgy!!!) :ymdevil:

I'm really tempted to have it done, but what concerns me is, will the paintwork still be vunerable under the film if I get a hard hit and with normal chips, will the film look tatty after a while? :-?

Blimey Mike, that is quite a transformation. It looks stunning. I can wait to see it in the flesh as it were.
