Ok guys and gals, I had a flat spot and other idle problems and no errors so looked her over and changed the first inlet pipe as it was perished slightly also cleaned the ICV and brought a new MAF (no not a e-bay copy :p) and today went for my first proper long drive in her and its like so much better but when changing gear from first to second when I take my foot off the throttle at say 2500 rpm the revs rise by another 300rpm before falling, its not all the time and feels like its mainly at low speeds :o

any help would be great :)
thanks

Hi, seems to be a number of these issues around the site. My car is back on the road in April since December and have a similar issue. Car stalls when warm. Starts again ok but feels lumpy. It runs really well through the higher Rev range, but back into tow with traffic lights and roundabouts its a bit of handful. Going in next week for service, MOT and investigation will let you know how it gets on.

All those symptoms appeared on my car when the inlet cam sensor had failed Si. It did store a code and went into limp home mode but didn't always put the EM light on.

I had a similar problem with my old Merc that turned out to be a sticking micro switch on the trottle body. It was covered with old oil. As soon as I cleaned it thoroughly the problem was gone. It seems that the swtich couldn't open or close quickly enough due to the contamination.

I'm not sure if the Zed has a similar set up to my Merc, but it's worth a try.

no that's a job for tomorrow, I have to take the bluetooth thingy out of my Alfa first as its in there all the time as I like the display on my phone in the torque app, will have to get another when I confirm this one works ok :)

hi, ours was suffering from the same thing & like you i had replaced the air pipe from the MAF, checking the car over revealed the next air pipe downstream which connects to the throttle body had also split where the smaller "finger" diverts from it.
The extra unmetered air causes weak running & the upward floating revs on gear changes, ive just ordered an oe replacement for about £12 from ebay.
Not sure what rubber bmw used for these pipes but its absolutely rubbish! Ive owned far older cars before with non of these issues with splitting pipes.
regards

well I have read the codes and there are non stored, I have checked both boots from the MAF to the throttle body by taking off and looking, the first I replaced as it was going hard and cracking and the second looked new also cleaned the ICV, I replaced the MAF and it is a lot better over all but still has that sticking throttle thing "sometimes", its ok 80% of the time but 20% of the time when changing gear the revs either stay for a second or rise slightly before falling :) while driving it all feels great.

Changed the second boot on mine last week. Looked in really good condition until the small concertina was checked very carefully and a small split was found.

Update with good news, sailed through the MOT and had a full service changed hoses on MAF as they were cracked and perished. Didn't fix the stalling and lack of power :( BMW Indy in Maidstone diagnosed inlet camshaft sensor and fixed same day. So it seems you were spot on @t-tony tested a couple times on decent runs and it's running a treat. Yeah

Great news Si, a lucky guess=))=)). No, seriously though was just the same as mine. Very glad you got it sorted mate. Have fun.

Tony.
