The original steering wheel on my pre-facelift Z3 was just a little too skinny and too big for my tastes.

I got hold of a more modern steering wheel thanks to @spurs fan in a coupe and then had it professionally refurbished by Jack at Royal Steering Wheels. I was offered a completely bespoke wheel with matching colours, materials, etc that were already on the car. I chose a conservative black with red stitching (that matches the seats in a really subtle but stylish touch).

A couple of before and after photos attached but I'm delighted with the final product.

I'm keeping the old steering wheel to preserve the originality of the car but for now the new wheel makes the car feel far better to drive and I prefer the looks too.

We are getting one fitted on wednesday to our peugeot van.... with orange stitching and perforated sides . I am going there to have it fitted as not too far from milton keynes
the Z3 has been having a rest as we have been using the van a bit recently

Looks really nice. I am happy with ours at the moment but may change my mind later.

Agree with all the above comments. One of the best mods you can do IMO. Here's mine:

got to say i do love the Royal steering wheel...i did my own wheel by using celulose apint and it came out real good.. i normally run a slip on wheel cover for general day to day driving but when its the weekend and i want a bit more feel to the wheel i tend to slip the cover off. plus it keeps it nice and clean..And i always wear my driving gloves. I feel naked without them !!!!! much like riding a motorbike i could never ride my motorbike without gloves.... i have a spare black wheel here too which ideally i ought to sell or get recovered..

Trouble with getting mine done is i would probably have to send it in as it is a different wheel to a lot of Z4s i have seen. It is thicker than earlier models.
