Quick question, might be better answered by the breakers.

I know the M Sport wheel has a single stage airbag and a dual stage.

From what I understand the dual stage began to appear in the Z3 after March 1998.

1. Are all the sliprings the same for the pre 98 airbags?

So will the slip ring that is found on this wheel

Work with the airbag on this wheel - granted both airbag are single stage?

2. Also are there any differences in the actual steering wheel? Are all the holes the same?

Essentially, I removed an M Sport Steering Wheel in absolutely immaculate condition from a facelift Z3 a few months ago.

I realised that the airbag was different and that I'd need to get the single stage airbag to allow the steering wheel to work with my car.

I think I've found a single stage airbag thanks to a forum member...

Question is, will my slip ring from my existing steering wheel work with the single stage airbag (even though my current wheel is not an MSport wheel).

Also despite having removed the actual steering wheel from a facelift car will it fit onto mine (I don't see why it wouldn't but need to double check before getting it retrimmed)

All the steering wheels physically fit.

Like you say the difference is in the airbag type.

I'm not sure if the slip rings will be the same but I can't see why not as the mounting will have to be.

It's a 2 minute job to check

It is in such good condition @Jimmy Weston that I actually considered fitting it to the car without having it retrimmed!

If you're considering buying one @spurs fan in a coupe should be able to help.

When I fitted my retrimmed wheel I cocked up and damaged the slip ring.
I got another from top chap @Synclare,he gave me a complete steering wheel (old type) so I could use it if the slip ring wasn't suitable.
However the slip ring from it was fine with my m steering wheel so you should be fine .

Thanks @Bozzy

The wheel has finally been sent off to Royal for the retrim - its been sat under my desk for a good few months - keep meaning to get round to it but never do!

I need to confess that I did copy @yocky z3 2.0 flat bottom style because I liked the look of it so much! Now we wait.... :banghead:

No worries mate :).
You'll love the retrimmed one when you get it. The flat bottom is a nice touch, something different .
What trim have you chosen ?.

I went with extra padding to the perforated leather on the sides with plain black nappa on the top and bottom (with a flat bottom) with ///M coloured stitching throughout.

I was considering having it done in a different colour at the bottom - much like @Sean d's wheel

But wasn't sure how that would look with the M stitching, so decided against it.
