Steering rack concerns...

Hi all, my steering rack leaked from the gaiters... so I bought another one from eBay alongside replacing all lines and etc... then that one leaked....

Sending old rack to western power steering for a full refurb,

question has anyone fitted an e46 purple tag rack to their cars?

What rack set up would you recommend? The Z3 racks are ridiculous to come by and then they all need rebuilding!

Also side note DO NOT BUY A RACK FROM LION AUTOMOTIVE ON EBAY, HE SELLS THEM AS FAKE REFURBS AND IT CAME FAILING, LEAKED WITHIN A DAY AND HE KEPT DENYING FAULT
 
The Z3 rack is faster (less turns lock to lock) than the purple tag rack ..they are hard to come by as they are popular upgrade for the E30/E36. I’ve had a refurbed rack from western before and it was excellent.

Steering Rack Woes

So...Saturday was MOT day .....I thought I'd got off lightly with a couple of minor advistories both of which I knew about. "Hydraulic Leak but not excessive steering rack" I am not sure what the MOT definition of "not excessive" is but on Saturday afternoon my drive was covered in bright pink...

The M44 Z3 rack is "faster" than the larger engined Z3 cars and is a popular upgrade.

Nah..they are all 2.7. Was also confirmed when you posted that in the above thread as well 😉
