A new statue has recently been erected in Portsmouth Dockyard alongside HMS Victory. It commemorates an iconic photograph taken during World War 2, I believe and depicts an American sailor being greeted by his wife/girlfriend.
I'd heard it was coming but didn't see it until last week, and have to say it is a stunning piece of work. It is made from sheet steel and stands around 30ft tall.
I'm not sure how good my photo will come out as it's taken with my phone and you may need to zoom in to appreciate it.
Some people have commented that it is "comic book art" and not true sculpture.

I love it.

That looks great a past time when our war heros were appreciated when they returned.

Great idea but what have they done to the great ship's masts

HMS Victory has been under refurbishment for many years; hardly an original piece of wood left.:(

They are laying alongside the ship on the quayside. I'm not sure if they are original or not

Most of the hull is still original. In fact the old girl is collapsing under her own weight in dry dock. If the dock was flooded now I don't think she'd be water tight because of the shrinkage in the timbers
