If I had a ridiculous amount of money the Ford Escort RS1600i would be the prize car in my garage to accompany my Z3. Much faster cars of the era for sure but none as iconic or good looking, in my view

An old friend of mine had an RS 1660i back in the day
Silly sod didn’t look after it and sold it for a very low price
I’m sure he’s kicking himself now

Escorts are very much my thing and I had a string of Mk 1/2s in the late 80s.

I also had a 1990 XR3i from new as a company car (at 22 years old, downhill all the way with my career after that...). That spent the first 12 months of it's life in the workshop trying to fix poor running. And the gearbox fell apart at 35k miles.

The RS1600i was the RS Escort to have back then as it was already acknowledged as something special. RS Turbo less so.

My interest after the XR3i experience moved on to Sierras. I had a gorgeous 2.0iS which was rare at the time and I'd guess no more than a handful left now. My dream 80s car is an RS500.

One of the nicest cars I had in the 70s was a 1967 3ltr. Humber Imperial like Margaret Thatcher was taken about in

I had loads of 80's Ford's, but my stand out favourite was definitely my my 1984 B reg Granada 2.8i Ghia X. I'd give my left b****** to have one now. A proper boat but it made you feel good!
