Thanks for the clarification, its Leather!
The seats will be spending some time in doors, will be a great project when the weather turns.
Preparation, preparation and more preparation seems the key (sorry for the pun)
Hoping for a transformation and looking forward to the end result

I have an original Z3 brochure which list options as Cloth, Leatherette or Leather. Mine had the electric seat option perhaps that included proper leather?

The leatherette looks like plastic as pictured in this thread somewhere.Most are leather.
The textured leather is just pressed in as an effect and dyed but its all leather.
