Here is the first picture biggest plaudits if you spot before i post a more close up picture of the problem.
Stephen

2 of you a certainly barking up the right tree but neither answer is the specific problem.
Stephen.

Dead leaves in the scuttle area?

Loose MAF plug?

Earth strap to body is broken off at battery negative terminal.

Some great guesses so far but no one has spotted this potentially dangerous issue.
Next picture at lunchtime reveal if nobody cracks it when i finish work this evening.

The engine cover looks to be very close to the master cylinder reservoir. If an engine mount allows movement...

Since we have got to lunchtime no correct guess here's the next picture
( this should make things much easier)

Battery positive crash fuse cover missing. Possibly arcing on the bonnet.

Real hazard is the jack being left half raised on the floor. A clear tripping hazard. It needs to be taped off and an exclusion zone placed around it before informing the Health and Safety Exectutive.

I was writing this before you posted the image - honest

Looks like a no-blo fuse!!! I wonder what real problem it is hiding.

A lot of diesel cars have a “fusible link” at the battery , but you would need eyes like a s*** house rat to spot that on the first pic.;)

Pass or advise?

Tony.
