Sports seats

Managed to get hold of a set of sports seats for the zed .They will need a little work saying that they have cleaned up nice but one seat has a bit of water damage , nothing i cannot dye out but what colour and how is the question.
Its really just one panel on the passenger seat base thats effected as it Oregon beige i'll loose the pattern in it but these seats don't appear often and become more rare with time and daft money so i did ok for the money thats for sure.
The seatbelt guides are intact theres alittle top stitching damage but not shy of sewing and You tubes a wonderful place so have that in hand
So what colour black and beige all beige ? Just the single panel black or beige ?
Unsure will have to do the door cards too so it all ties in but thats no biggy.

The leather is all good bar the marks on the passenger seat.
I have stripped them down checked them through the motors are all good switches work fine.
I have checked all the heating pads and found the drivers base pad to be u/s.
Had brought a universal kit to fix a car i had so had a pad so set about a fix.
As you can see the seat has seen weather!!

The drivers bolster was slightly a drift so all strapped up and gluded to restore. The damage was clear..

It had melted itself in to the foam as it had let go.

New pad cut and i retrofitted it in the seat all pads now testing fine so at least i know when fitted my ass will be toasty
So what colour is the question whats your thoughts ??

Hi, I went for the gliptone system from Liquid Leather and decided on all black, it does seem a shame to dye them as they quite nice black/beige. I had a leather repair kit including glue and the leather filler so should be fine will post some pics of the process and the finish.

What did you end up paying if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah im leaning that way the interior is all beige at the mo as you know with black fittings do you think it would be odd with just that middle base panel solid beige ? Would like to keep the texture to tie it all together.

Have to admit I really wanted to keep the texture I'm pretty sure it will go when I dye the seats though. I did consider going grey for the centre but would a dark grey really stand out, probably not. So in the end figured black was the way to go I also figure on doing the seat lift this looks like a nice mod that will add comfort. I feel a bit like I slip forward at the moment or at least not really part of the seat.

You a jammy git Ant ! Where did you find them? I sat in @Mint's a couple of years ago and couldn't believe the difference in comfort. And with @t-tony's seat lifter all ready in situ it would be like sitting in your armchair. I'd stick with beige personally but as I always say, it's your train set, do with it as you see fit.

How about dying them in a blue/black combo ? Have seen them done like that and they do look good and the blue will go with your paint work.

The texture will stay for sure but the two tone effect of it will be the bit lost.
The glipstone stuff is like a rubbery coating it hard wearing.
Found a company to supply at about 30 quid for 500ml which is loads as it goes further than you would think.
May invest in an airbrush too as under a tenner and the finish may be more uniform. But applying it with a sponge is very effective , surprisingly easy and it gives good results.

How about dying them in a blue/black combo ? Have seen them done like that and they do look good and the blue will go with your paint work.

The problem with blue black is the dash and door cards etc are all beige so would be too much of a mismatch .

I was watching a vid on youtube where the guy demonstrating the dying technique was using a sponge to get a slightly mottled effect. I had thought about this for the middle panels rather than using an air-brush. The only consideration was putting the semi-gloss coat on and would the mottled effect be lost or look like I had done a bad job of dying, or worse we all remember the 90,s and rag rolling

Yeah thats how it goes on eBay, mostly its just luck, thats how I came about my seats, messaged the seller and got them for £50 crazy.

I have looked at all sorts of videos as you say it may look like its done wrong rather than an effect .
Im going to stay matt finish i think may go satin but not gloss for sure.
Leather is normally matt when finished it only goes shiny with use.

Hi, yeah sorry meant satin, all the vids I have seen point to not overdoing the final coat for the reasons you said. I have final seats in mine at the mo and they are horrible you just don't feel connected with anything. Going round corners and just driving I am constantly adjusting my position just because I'm slipping around on them.

They are certainly a whole different feel sat in them .You feel held in when you sit in them so its a lot better for the driving experience.

Hi ant don't go buying an airbrush I have got one with small compressor from when I did mine you can lend it if you want I think baige and black would set it off just to brake all the baige up cheers tony.

Hey thanks for that i will take you up on that for sure. Still debating black i may go just two tones of beige a lighter one for the center by just a shade as thats the closest i will get to the stock stuff.
Have the exect shade of the current leather from the chassis number and have found and matched that with a supplier i will choose a lighter shade but with no mixing so i can always match it with out tinting as my eyes and colours/shades are useless !!
I will pm you in the week and pop over and collect it.
