If I list all the faults, would you give me a realistic price, as i like the car them selves, maybe buying a good one would be the most cost effective for me

I think you are probably right to trade-up. Just make sure it's a good one this time! Ask someone from the forum to go with you perhaps.

Personally I wouldn't list all the faults here as a potential buyer may find it. There's being truthful and there's shooting yourself in the foot.

You're welcome to PM me for help. But it would have to have been accident damaged for it to be worth any less than £1,500. I'd be tempted to put it on ebay as an open auction with a start price of £1,350 and see where it goes. I'd be surprised if you didn't get close to your £2k back. Or a fixed price at £2,200 and ask for offers if you prefer. I can't really give any more specific guidance than that though. There's no exact price for any car. So I'm saying get the best money you can between £1,350 on a bad day and £2,200 on a good day.

Perhaps the more important thing to concentrate on is the wording and photos in the ad. Again happy to help there if you want to draft something up and send it to me.

And please, anyone else weigh in with advice. I spend silly amounts of time studying cars for sale but a range of opinions is always good.

Don't intend to sound patronising but you need to:
1. See the potential purchase and list what work needs to be done to get it to the standard you seek. Being sold by a dealer it should be at least roadworthy (maybe dangerous assumption but....). Get his best price for cash.
2. List what needs to be done to your existing car to achieve the standard you seek and get it costed (ball park should do).
3. Get a "changeover" price from the dealer, if he is interested in doing so.

With this information, you can make an informed decision. Hope these thoughts help.:)

Those are good things to start any advert off with. Let the pictures do most of the talking.

And perhaps just conclude with a general statement saying something like "this is a 16 year old car so does have some attention required to the bodywork but is a great car for someone to add value to as an ongoing project while they enjoy running the car in the meantime"

I genuinely don't want to buy your car as I have too many - 6 at the moment. But if you get desperate to move it on give me a shout.

I have an absolutely spanking 2.2 Sport in Topaz blue which is a current project car. I will be selling that in the next few weeks when I've finished it off. It will be 100% sorted with things like new water pump & thermostat. But a) it is a few weeks off at the moment b) I will be looking for £4k to £4.5k for it.

Cheers or the offer. I just couldn’t spend that amount straight off.

Ild have to get rid of mine to just about afford the other one.

Best for me to pop and have a look at his.
