Good work Stephen, and outdoors too - still, it was obviously high summer in Glasgow and not raining. The three big bolts that fix the bottom of the strut seemed to be 18 mm across the flats, a size not commonly found in socket sets. Or am I wrong. I had to hunt through my tools to find a socket that fitted well, and boy are they tight! My two foot breaker bar was needed.

A decent socket set should have an 18mm socket, they’ve been using them on cars since Z3s were made;) And yes, they’re sometimes FT.

Like Tony says 18mm now a common use size across a good number of car manufacturers.
And yes it was a nice summer day which always lessons the hardship of working outside not so much the weather for that at the moment .

Most of us need breaker bars on those bolts. No shame there. Better that than hurting yourself when a regular wrench slips. Or rounding the nut.

That's exactly why you have breaker bars, to break the bond. You should never use a ratchet to break something free and in general spanners don't have the length to give sufficient leverage or even have the comfort of a round bar to apply full pressure without damaging your fingers.
