I got caught 12 years ago on the M1 109mph in a citron xanta of all things. £500 fine 6 points and because I couldn't afford to loose my licence ( I was a transport manager in a large haulage company at the time ) I attended the magistrates court with a solicitor and his bill was £1500 . Not a good day :-((

Yep 4 hours of your life will be completely wasted but it's the better option than to get points and for your insurance to rise.

One bloke on my course got up after 5 mins and said f*** this I will take the 3 points and walked out, that was about the only amusing part of the whole 4 hours

I got a £350 fine plus 6 points being clocked at 104mph
Ooh, you lucky b*****r. I got clocked at 102.5, and got £200 and a 7 day ban about 10 years ago [-(

Typical speed trap - lovely sunny day, perfect visibility, dual carriageway with no other vehicles on it.
Gary did you get the points
That was part of my defence A lovely sunny day, perfect visibility, dual carriageway with no other vehicles on it, I had previously been ill, a clean licence, totally out of character, wife not feeling well at the time, needed to get home etc, etc, that was in dorset, i had to go back to appear in court
I didn't speak, i wrote all my defence on paper and handed it to the three magistrates
I was advised it's best not to speak, as you often say the wrong thing
Driving around with 9 points on your licence in a ///m is hard :coolsteer)

Two weeks earlier i got pulled for jumping a light, a pedestrian light in a traffic jam, i was hardly moving
Prior to that i had a clean licence for 30+ years

No points for me which was at least one positive. The magistrate wasn't letting anyone off easy that day...

I took a solicitor and a letter from work stating I need my license as I was field based. Wasn't actually allowed a letter from work, but my boss did one anyway. This seemed to have some effect as everyone else seemed to be getting at least 14 days for similar speeds.

Horrible experience going to court.

Not like the good 'ol days, I got caught by an unmarked omega on the a50 at 93.4 or something like that.
Was he sat on the top of the A38 roundabout? Year 2000?

Mine was. He caught me just before the Melbourne turnoff. Gave me the same speech. I think they use it to defuse any potential problems before they start. I've still got it on my licence as a reminder :ymblushing: .

I got caught in the 70's doing 37.2 in a 30 - fined me £100 and an endorsement, said he was trying to teach me a lesson I wouldn't forget.

£100 was a bl***y lot of money then, my dad paid it and I had to pay him back in installments.

Just one SP30 in 50years.I was clocked doing 38mph as I accelerated out of a 30 limit into a 40 limit towing a caravan. This was in North Wales which at the time was governed by the Mad Mullah of the Traffic Taliban. They were parked under a willow tree in the 40 limit.
My younger son was clocked in the same place, again towing a caravan, a couple of years later. He thinks this time they were operating from a horse box.

I did the course about 3 years ago.

It used to be a full day with the morning theory and the afternoon actual driving.

I think its only half day now of just theory.

I did it at the Reebok stadium in Bolton which was fun but to make it more interesting I turned up in the F430 and had a queue of instructors wanting to take me out in the afternoon :D

To be honest the practical bit was actually a bit of an eye opener and was actually worth doing but the theory was just boring.

Its a no brainer to do it if you get the chance rather than the points / insurance hike.

Bad luck mate! My daughter did one of those courses last year, she is an extremely
steady driver and was actualy going down a steep hill and they clocked her at 37 mph
in a 30. She said it was a boring 4 hours but at least no record of it now on her licence!

Mine would have been about 1996 so probably was the same one :D I know the the area i pulled over when i drive it now, just thinking through the road in my head i think it's a way after the A38 junction so he probably sat well back and used VASCAR? to do a point to point check while sitting well back. I had been used to people flying past me at well over 100 at this point so hadn't noticed him until he closed in for the kill ;)

You only get points over here in the first five years after obtaining a driving license.

As of the first of Jun 2011 If you get caught twice drinking and driving within 5 years you loose your license.

I got caught in 2007 one afternoon driving back from the beach after a couple of cold ones.
As the gizmo only showed that I had consumed alcohol, I had to go to the station for a further test.
I was told I could not drive for one hour and received a fine of Euro 240.00
As it took an hour and a half to process me, when I left that station, I could drive home, minus Euro 240.00.

A mate of mine was banned for a year for drink driving.

He had a job selling advertising at railway stations and for 50 weeks managed to cover his patch by scrounging lifts, by bike and by using public transport but in week 51 his boss asked him to pick him up to go and meet a customer. His car had been looked after by a friend and he couldn't see a way out of the situation. He maintained that he'd not driven a yard before.

He picked his boss up and 20 minutes later drove down a bus lane that wasn't there 6 months earlier, was pulled over by the police and charged with driving whilst banned.

How much did he get fined?

Nothing....the Police lost the paperwork and he got away scot free! 8-}
