I got stopped once for not using my indicator on a roundabout...think they thought I was someone else or doing something other than driving! Gave me a right talking to, saying it was his pet hate etc. Did annoy me when the police car drove off and promptly didn't use indicators on same roundabout haha

I spent quite a while in Germany, and out there it used to (may still be true) be that not indicating got you an on-the-spot fine. Perhaps not surprisingly the majority of drivers actually found the strength to push that big heavy stick up or down to do the flashy bit. Unlike the lazy tw@s over here.

Dull or not (and the tales I could tell of hot German babes would make your ears melt, so probably not that dull, really) at least they could manage some kind of signalling, unlike those splendidly anarchic British that seem to consider it unmanly to let anyone know what's going to happen next. To55ers.

They're outside our house in Torfaen, south wales, taking the black bags off the speed limit signs that they put up a few weeks ago.

I think the council here have got it pretty much right.

Councils do have some flexibility in how they apply these limits.

Here the roads coming in to town are staying at 30. In fact the road I live on was 40 but is now 30 all the way into the centre of town. I live on the outskirts. I believe there's some short stretches coming off the dual carriageway which are going to or staying at 40 so that there's not a sudden switch from dual carriage way speeds to 20.

So, main thouroughfares into/through town are mostly staying at 30. Purely residential roads going down to 20.

Of course there's going to be some county councils that kick the ar*e out of it and do blanket 20mph. They don't need to. Don't moan at the government. Moan at your CC.

Yes. The german cops were big on on-the-spot fines. No messing. In the UK the cops are scared to pull anyone over for a minor in case they get a load of lip off of the hats-on-backwards brigade and spend the rest of their shift doing paper work. In germany it's "Zat vill be 50 Marks bitte. Danke und having you now ein gut Fart. Next!".

Actually. Talking of UK cops. On the news a couple of days ago there was some govt body saying that there's more police now than ever before in uk history. The opposition's argument is that there's still fewer cops per head of population.

But today I was thinking. The size of the country, the square miles, hasn't changed. Number of cops per square mile. If there's more cops where the hell are they? When I was a kid you couldn't stand near a lamp post and pick up a rock without getting your sideburns yanked. Nowadays I don't see a cop from one week to the next?
