Glad I don't reside in Gloucestershire with my habits.;) Seriously though this looks like a mean bit of kit.

Tony.

I have one of those lenses! Maybe I could do some revenue collection myself :D

Unfortunately it has come to this because of the rich and famous claiming the driver was not them but some stooge, so that they can continue their bad driving with impunity.

I imagine the lense alone is over 10k ?
Looks like a 100/400mm zoom. About £2k.
The Canon 800mm prime is a mere £12.2k.

Right on my door step. I thoroughly disapprove, not of speed cameras but the fact there is so much emphasis put on this side of dangerous driving rather than morons who drive like complete tw*ts at legal speeds. It's easy peasy stuff to catch speeding motorists. It may be capable of catching tailgaters and mobile phone users but I bet 99% of offences attributed to it will be speeding as anything else is too much agro for the police to prosecute.

The A417/A419 on it's core stretch is a superb piece of dual carriageway. Doing 80mph on it is unlikely to be the root of all evil and I've never seen anyone doing silly speeds on it. That camera is well suited to it though as it's a Roman road - Ermin Way. So it's very straight. It has plenty of accidents but I can't remember reading about any of them and thinking they were caused by speeding. Just poor driving.

The Police will catch plenty of 80-85 mph drivers on that road. Tell us they've done a brilliant job, yet do nothing to address the idiot driving.

The authorities would be better off concentrating on dealing with the missing link. A ridiculous piece of 40mph single carriageway that sits between the end of that dual stretch and the final dual drop onto the M5 after Birdlip.

A 100-400mm wouldn't be able the driver at 1km away like they're claiming in the article or would it?

From the article..............

Police said the main aim was to educate people about how to drive more safely and to prevent accidents....................

Yeah............sure...........................and I got a bridge I can sell you....................

If that was truly the case Frankie they could send anyone they find doing wrong a letter explaining said offence and only require them to pay the cost of the letter and postage.
Ooh look, a flying Pig.=))

I was just thinking..................in Wales, with all that open country, you might be spotted at even 1k meters away. To catch @miller1098 , they'd probably have to make the whole kit with the officer look like another sheep on the side of the road.....................Frankie

The glass is incredibly good. With the latest image stabilisation on top you could easily get a usable image. By changing the position of the lens they could easily use just the centre portion.

Not as rough as Badger's then Mike?

Won't be long before they do that Franky, I can just see the police looking at a stuffed sheep with a camera sticking out of its rear end and them all laughing saying " how can it fail cos it's looking away from the offender." Can also see a lot of Welshman going off the road looking at what they usually would be creeping up on.

Roy.=))

PS; thanks for the pic HT.

They used to say out in Wyoming that cowboys always bought jeans that had button-up flys because of the way sheep reacted to the sound of a zipper.......................Frankie

Let alone Velcro . . . . .
