anyone removed the spare wheel carrier ? i can see how it comes off,, i want to get it powder coated, but the metal cord that drops from the boot seems to be permanently attached... i have removed the rear hinge bolts and the two lowering bolts any advice... i dont want to cut the wire...?

I'm also taking mine off but it won't be going back on, I've not looked yet but @Bozzy has taken his off I believe

Found this on an old post from 2011

The lowering cable has a threaded nipple on the end that screws into the end of the cradle bolt.

Remove spare wheel in the usual manner and then raise the now much lighter cradle and unscrew the cable from the end of the cradle bolt

As @Sean d said I removed mine.
@handsomejackuk what I did to remove the wire rope was cut a slot in the black plastic handle with a junior hacksaw i couldn't see another way apart from cutting the wire which I didn't want to do so it could be refitted if needed.

Don't cut it off! There is a thread which screws in to the cage, just need to grip the hex section firmly (mole grips work well) and unscrew. Maybe a squirt of wd40 before hand if you fancy!

thanks, i have been told that it will unscrew from the carrier section...i will have a look later and take some pictures... thanks Col...will keep you all posted
