Model of Z
Z4 coupe sport.
Had a trip to the SZS today and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Met up with Martin @Mnbrennan at the Hemel Mc Ds to follow him in his latest set of M3 wheels down to the breakfast meet before making our way to Lee’s Shed. My coupe was the only Z at the meeting point and was amazed at the array of transport the others turned up in, Gaz in a TT, Paul in S3, Lee and Trevor in Merc 4x4 tank, Martin in his M3. Mike @mwpe Z3 turned up later at the shed. Just for a change the shed wasn’t busy with someone else’s problem and saw a Z3 2.8 limited slip diff on the bench being stripped out by Lee. Been too long since I’ve been down there for a visit and was made very welcome with loads of great banter which made my day not forgetting what I came home with on the rear of the coupe, so proud I was allowed to sport this very sort after badge of honour. Take a look.

Gaz being the expert at transfer application made a real nice job of putting it on the rear of the coupe along with the obligatory.org black sticker rather than the white one. ( real nice touch )
Done so much talking didn’t get the pics I really needed so have to go back sooner rather than later.
Thanks go to Martin for a nice M3 ride as with Paul in his real nice S3, Lee for a ride in the back seat of the tank between two big southerners which made it feel like I was in a racing harness as whatever speed the bends were taken I felt nicely cushioned (by Trevor and Paul), couldn’t breath properly but well tucked in to make up for it. Thanks guys for a very entertaining day see you all again soon.

RHA, Roy.

Good to meet you again Roy, I don't get down there oftenenough and I only live 20 miles away. Always a good morning though, I enjoyed the lesson on dismantling the diff.

I could probably get it to that state.....but then would have no idea how it went back together.

Is there much difference between this (LSD) and a normal diff ???

We have two types of LSD’s with the Z3, the Torsen and the clutch. Basically keeps drive to both wheels when under load. Some earlier zeds were fitted with open diffs which mainly puts power to one wheel when the load increases.

My Z is getting new rear tyres this week so took the opportunity to check the limited slip diff is still working well.
None the wiser if mine is clutch or torsen but it’s definitely sending the power to both wheels when asked, no crazy spinning up of the inside wheel.
Much fun (albeit somewhat smelly and smokey when tested on dry tarmac) ;)

Good to see you again Roy.. don’t be a stranger.. always good to see you. And it’s an A4.. lol.. not an S3.... it’s a diesel guv.. honest
