I have, at long last, got my car back! I hear you rejoicing with street parties and bunting!

I’m documenting the damages to my car and one of these is the alarm is going off non-stop at night. I’ve discovered two units in the righthand side of the boot are not only immersed in rain water but this is a frozen block. Please see the attached picture.

I really need help to get this resolved and am asking for your help, please.

I’ve posted the problem, guys and gals. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to stop the alarm going off, please? I’m guessing that as the alarm is only going off at night, this is due to the temperatures dropping and the frozen block freezing further.

When I had the same issue (alarm going off at night) it was a faulty switch on the bonnet slam panel.

I’ll check that.
I think these frozen units sitting in inches of water is something to do with a tilt sensor from what I’m reading but has anyone any ideas as there shouldn’t be all this water in the lefthand side of the boot?

I think this is a tilt sensor for the alarm and you might be able to disconnect it. Obviously you first need to defrost the accumulated block of ice. That is a typical area that fills up with water if you have a perished aerial grommet or tail light cluster seal or in my case a very small leak in the body panels near the light cluster.

Thanks. I’m working on getting the ice and water out now. The alarm has gone off once so it’s clearly thinking where I am located on the car is tilting. How do I disconnect this tilt mechanism?

Has anyone any idea what this connector should be connected to, please? In the boot area.

Aftermarket? I don’t know as I’ve had to stop. The temperature is rapidly falling and I’ll be an icicle soon if I don’t! I’m unaware of any aftermarket wiring in the boot area…

One litre of water later and the ice and water are gone…my hairdryer has come in handy finishing drying this area out. Here’s a photo of this area now:

I’ve replied to your PM, but the white module in your pic is the tilt sensor, undo the two bolts and unplug to remove it, looking at the black component it’s a vacuum solenoid valve, I remove and dry that out as well.
The solenoid valve will be for the active exhaust flap thing. Agree I’d take the lot out and bung them in a bowl of rice..apparently it works to dry out phones but I am not convinced 😁

A dehumidifier will do the trick, I’m guessing. A job for the weekend.

Tonight will be interesting - or not! Will the alarm go off or won’t it?
The alarm has been fine during the daylight hours and has only been going off from about 11pm onwards and throughout the night as though it’s reacting to the drip in temperature. The frozen block around the hnits in the lefthand side of the boot is, I’m hoping, what makes sense here.

Dawn, it could be related to your battery health especially as it’s been sat for ages . When mine was on its way out it used to set the alarm off and whole host of other weird stuff. Cold in the middle of the night will reduce the battery voltage and that may trigger the alarm

So, guys and gals. My car’s alarm did not go off last night! It’s raining here, atm. When there's a break in the weather I shall go and inspect the boot area for rain.
The battery was new in September 2024 @AntStark but as you're rightly pointed out, my car has not been driven. Would this still affect the battery?
