I feel I should apologise for not being very active on here over the last couple of months. I almost feel I've neglected you wonderful people. Work has been unusually busy, but its not just that.

Mrs Smiffy and I spend numerous weekends fundraising for a local karate school with whom our son has trained with for the last 16-17 years. He is now one of the instructors. We run a fundraising stall at local fetes at which the students usually do a display.

The fundraising is to send students to National tournaments and training sessions when they make the National squad. The schools students are often selected to represent the UK in European and World Championships. Our son goes as their official coach. Unfortunately, Karate isn't an Olympic sport, so receives no funding, so we raise money to send them.

A couple of years ago I was asked to fix a very sorry example of a "hook a duck" game. It was scrap really, so came home and built this. @miller1098 will be impressed, it's solar powered!

Sometimes I get called "The Duckmeister" which was very nearly my screen name.
Next outing, this coming Sunday, Corton Village Fete! @Shelly ?

But that only consumes so much time. as many will have noticed my avatar image is an aeroplane. I helped finish the restoration of this one, and now have a share in it, but although I've been around aviation on and off since the age of 4, I've never actually got a pilots licence. I've been limited to flying with other pilots. Well, this year I'm getting on with it and last Wednesday my instructor sent me off Solo for the first time!

If the weather holds out, I should complete training and final test this summer. This will give me a licence to fly microlight aircraft. The plan for next year will be to upgrade it so that I can fly the biplane solo.

The zed, well, all work postponed until the winter. I've decided not to do anything I can put off, so that I don't make it undriveable while the sun is here.

Nice write up - you have very interesting past times - best wishes with the on going projects - don't forget about the Zed though!:)

Life does get in the way a lot these days, but keep dropping in when you have the time... Much like me these days, don't even get chance to read half the posts :bag:

I think I actually got conned into building the ducks and have ever since been conned into turning out at "stupid-o'clock" on sundays to set it up and tend them! The plan was to sort of retire them quietly this winter and recover some of my sundays next year, However, it was announced this weekend that Karate has been added to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, so I sense those poor old ducks are going to be paddling around in circles a lot more in the hope that one or two of our students make the grade. It is however, a slightly different "flavour" of Karate so me and the ducks may get a reprive!

The Zed isn't forgotten, roof was down on Saturday and did about 80 miles. Out to the flying school and then on to a customer to do a job. The boot is just big enough to get a few tools and a laptop in. I didn't bank on having to bring a motorized satellite TV dome off a motor yacht home with me though, it did just fit on the passenger seat! :D

I have compiled a job list for the Zed and it has extended to the extent that it is all on hold until the winter months and will do it all at once. The trouble is, I got to build a shed in the garden so I can empty the garage first! Why is nothing ever simple?

Great read Smiffy, well done on all counts, hope you get your pilots licence for the bi plane next year, will follow with interest.:bookworm: Driving a Z and flying a plane must be twice the smiles per road and sky miles.:happy:
Rha, Roy.

The Zed and the Biplane have a bit in common, both are;

German design
Two seats
Open top
and consume fuel faster than we'd all like!

28ltrs an hour! although that does equate to about 14mpg and we can travel in straight lines!
