Well I finally took the plunge and joined. I don't own a Z yet but am actively looking but am happy to sit tight till the right one shows up

I live in the midlands and my aim is to purchase a late 2.2 or 3.0 Z3 in manual

So far I've had a look at a few cars for sale through Autotrader and TBH have been disappointed with what I've seen. The photos have not lived up to my expectations..also they have been cars that somebody only "bought" recently and are selling on.

My conclusion is that I would prefer to purchase off an honest enthusiast that can give me chapter and verse on whats been done to the car warts and all. I'm quite mechanically minded and appreciate the youngest is 20 years old now.

I visited your recent get together at Shepshed in Leicestershire..The quality of the cars there was amazing compared to the ones I've looked at so far...These are the sort of cars that hopefully one will turn up that I can take over as custodian to look after!!

I have been looking at a few and I think your comments about most of the cars available on the general market whether private or dealers are spot on. There is a lot of overpriced and or tired looking stuff out there.

I wish you good luck finding a decent one at a good price. My view is that the 2.2 is your best bet as there are more about, including more manuals, and are less likely to be overpriced. Whether you can persuade anyone on here to sell their p&j is questionable but you will learn some of the common issues to check for.

Thanks for that..I ought to add that I look at MOT history's as well. When a vehicle has a list of advisories as long as the 10 commandments and they keep turning up its a major no no from me as I believe it can give a fair indication on general maintenance standards over the years

Not sure I agree with you there, although obviously depends what they are. However, these cars are getting on a bit and many are little used second or third cars now, so some advisories can crop up even with well looked after ones. For instance, I had a looked after Jag xk that had advisories for rusty brake discs just from storing it over winter. Equally, corroded brake pipes, worn bushes or shock absorber weeps can occur without even the careful owner being aware until MOT test finds them.

Hi Ade and :welcome: from me too, also in the Midlands in Stafford.
Good shortlist choice of Zeds....I have a 2.2 and a 3.0. Both are manual and were born in 2002:whistle:

Hi Ade,
I've just upgraded to the Z4M and have a lovely Z4 3.0Se in Red with a lot of history and only 69k miles . It has had paint correction, machine polished and Ceramic coating last year along with a full refurb on the CLS alloys which were then Hydro dipped in Carbon.
Also last year I purchased a hard top with stand and cover clips and had it sprayed to match the cars paintwork.
Just had a full service and long Mot.
Just had new discs and pads all around .

This is a very good condition Zed with a few age stone chips on the front as expected on any car of this age 2004 plate.

Let me know if you or anyone is interested before I put it on the market as I would like to go to a good home. I've had the car for the last 5 years .

Thanks Phil
